Delete your account.

Two paths to wipe your Yapp account and the content tied to it. Either works — pick whichever's easier.

From inside the app

The fastest way. Wipes everything tied to your account in one step.

  1. Open Yapp and go to Profile (bottom-right tab).
  2. Tap the gear icon → Account.
  3. Tap Delete account.
  4. Confirm the prompt. Done.
Note for early testers: the in-app delete flow is shipping with the public Play Store release. If you're on a test build that doesn't have it yet, use the email path on the right — same outcome.

  1. Email yappcares@gmail.com from your registered email address.
  2. In the subject: "Account deletion request".
  3. In the body, include your Yapp handle (the @username the app gave you) — speeds things up.
  4. We confirm the request, then process it within 7 days.

What happens to your data

Deleted permanently

  • Your account row + login email
  • Your random handle, avatar emoji, and colour
  • All posts you created (text, image, video)
  • All voice yaps you recorded
  • Auto-generated transcripts of your yaps
  • AI thread summaries derived from your content
  • Likes / dislikes you placed on other content
  • Blocks you'd set up
  • Notification tokens for your device

Active storage is wiped right away. Encrypted backups rotate out within 30 days, after which no copy of your content remains in our systems.

Retained (briefly, and anonymised where possible)

  • Replies you wrote to other people's yaps will still appear in those threads, but with your username replaced by [deleted user].
  • Moderation records (reports you submitted or were the subject of) — kept up to 12 months, so we can defend moderation decisions if questioned.
  • If your account was banned for serious abuse, a limited device / IP signal is kept for up to 24 months to prevent ban evasion. This is described in the Privacy Policy §05.
  • Anonymised, aggregated metrics (e.g. "190 yaps were played in May") — cannot be traced back to you.

Where Indian law (e.g. Information Technology Act, IT Rules 2021) requires us to retain a record for longer, we comply.

Timeline

After we verify the request comes from you:

  • Within 24 hours: account is marked for deletion and signed out everywhere.
  • Within 7 days: account row, posts, yaps, media, and transcripts are removed from active storage.
  • Within 30 days: encrypted backups rotate, and no copy of your content remains except the narrow exceptions listed above.

If you change your mind

You have a short grace period after submitting the request — if you reach out within 3 days, we can usually cancel it and restore access. After that, deletion is irreversible. Be sure before you tap the button.
